The Commodities

A small number of agro-commodities in the world provide employment to millions of people in deprived rural areas. And, many developing countries´ economies rely heavily on a few globally traded commodities for their export revenues. If managed sustainably, exporting food can be a major contributor to economic growth in these countries.

So far the Green Commodities Programme is involved in transforming the production and supply chain of seven highly traded commodities that have significant political clout and the potential to impact millions of farmers in the countries where we work. These commodities are also crucial on a global scale, as they are major contributors to deforestation, biodiversity loss and climate change.
